The town of Matlacha, pronounced "MAT-la-shay," located just north of Captiva and Sanibel Island, is an undiscovered gem; a quirky, artsy, rustic fishing village like something right out of the movies.

One of the friendliest towns in the area, I've never been to Matlacha without feeling that I've stepped back in time. Once your car crosses over the bridge, everything changes. Life becomes a little bit slower. Passing cars and walkers wave as you pass by, and almost everyone is carrying a fishing pole. As an added bonus, there is virtually no commercialization.
